Medieval flail with chains

The flail of arms, used as a weapon of the Middle Ages that has its origin in the flail, a traditional agricultural instrument used to sift cereals.

Their main advantage was that they could swing with chains attached to the mace instead of straps.

So they could attack by striking on the knights' hatches or around the shields.
